Lanarkshire Mountain Bike Club

PROBABLY THE BEST MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB IN . . . WELL LANARKSHIRE

Started off from Milngavie Station car Park and headed thro’ the Town Centre to pickup the start of the West Highland Way. Everything was going fine until the first bridge was tackled just before Milngavie Golf Club. Gareth had an off when his bike went from under him on the slick wooden bridge. Cue Gareth landing with a thud and his bike flying into the fast flowing burn. Fortunately the bike did not float away but got stuck under the bridge and was retrieved with the help of a big stick.

After Gareth's bike wash it was on for a mile or so past Milngavie Golf Course and then up and down thro some muddy technical climbs and descents. Back on the WHW it was then on past Craigallian Loch ,briefly on the B821 and then a fast rocky descent down to Dumgoyach Bridge. A right turn here took us on to the disused Strathblane Railway which due the mud was a hard slog to get along.  A quick stop at Strathblane where a few of the guys gave their bikes a dip in the burn to get the worst of the mud off and it was off back towards Mugdock over some technical climbs , fast grassy descents and some extremely boggy ground , knee deep in places.  Once back into Mugdock Country Park it was a short blast back down into Milngavie and the open air changing room that is Milngavie Station Car Park.

Puncture for Brian . . . . In the Car Park before we started, the “Mr Mechanicals” legend lives on

Wullie Cook  -  “Sook It”  his response when accused by one of the group of hindering their progress up a steep muddy slope.
